ALEX Neil said Millwall were in “decent shape” heading into the upcoming season.
The Lions kick off the 2026-27 season with a Carabao Cup First Round tie at Queens Park Rangers on Saturday, before travelling to Bristol City the following weekend for their Championship opener.
They do so fresh off a 1-0 friendly win over Royal Antwerp that wrapped up their pre-season preparations. They previously beat CD Eldense, drew with Bromley and lost to Gillingham, Stevenage and FC Andorra.
One of the main aims of pre-season was to integrate Millwall’s seven summer signings: Jenson Metcalfe, Tairyk Arconte, Mathis Servais, Mark Sykes, Elkan Baggott, Kyrell Lisbie and Danny Batth, and all have featured regularly in the warm-up games, although Servais will be unavailable for the start of the season after injuring his hamstring. Tristan Crama and Mihailo Ivanovic will also miss out.
Speaking to NewsAtDen after Millwall’s open training session, Neil assessed his side’s pre-season.
“We’re in decent shape,” Neil said. “We’ve got some players coming back.
“We’ve picked up a couple of injuries, which is obviously frustrating. We’ve made a few signings as well, and we’re trying to incorporate them into the group and get them an understanding of what we’re going to look like going forward.
“We’re a little bit late coming back because of the play-offs last year. We naturally needed to give them a little bit more break. A couple of lads had some international duties as well, so again, they were in a week later.
“So it’s been a little bit bitty in that sense. But all in all, I’m pretty sure if you went up to every club up and down the country, they’d be saying the same thing.”
