Sacred Heart Catholic School has emerged victorious in the annual Southwark Schools Chess Tournament.
Hosted at the Sacred Heart, in Camberwell, the competition saw pupils from five local secondaries go head-to-head on Friday, March 1.
Organisers say the competition was “close” and featured “high-quality games” with Sacred Heart narrowly beating Harris Boys East Dulwich to the top spot.
Joan Laffan, librarian at Sacred Heart, said: “I am incredibly proud of our team and chess club. They had some very tough competition.
“We went into the last round of the tournament needing 4 wins out of 7 against our final school. I would like to thank all schools for participating and making it a wonderful competition for all the students.”
Ark Globe Academy and Notre Dame School from Elephant and Castle Haberdashers’ Academy from Borough also competed.
