A man has been hospitalised after a flat fire above a shop on the Old Kent Road.
Three fire engines and roughly fifteen firefighters tackled the blaze at 3.35am this morning (Friday, May 26).
A man suffering from smoke inhalation was led to safety via an internal staircase by crews wearing breathing apparatus and taken to hospital.
Crews from Old Kent Road, New Cross and Peckham fire stations had brought the fire under control by 4.37am.
A small part of the second floor split level flat was damaged.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
