The 200-year-old Borough pub, which closed its doors in January, is ready to reopen after undergoing a massive refurbishment.

Last month, The Ship, on Borough Road announced it would be reopening and locals welcomed the ‘good pub news.’

Fans took to social media to express their excitement that the nearly 220-year-old pub is back in business, after closing in January.

One social media user wrote on Twitter: “Great to hear! A pub in south London opening its doors again, it will be on the list.”

Another wrote: “Finally some good pub news! I pray they leave the interior alone.”

They are likely to be pleased as the new director, Gerard Flynn, assures they have kept all the original features.

“The pub has a massive history and we respect that,” he said. “We’ve kept it looking traditional and just cleaned it up a bit.

He explained that the garden had fallen into disrepair over the years – “so our focus has been on bringing that back to life, ready for the summer.”

Following the refurbishment, the beer garden is now accessible from the street.

Gerard added that even after their upgrade, which is due to finish soon, the basis of what people love and remember is still there.
