Active and aspiring social activists are invited to a free workshop where they’ll be taught how to use the law when campaigning.
Organised by the Community Action Network and Southwark Law Centre, the workshop will see three legal experts give talks from 6.30pm to 8.30pm on Wednesday, July 6 at Blackfriars Settlement, Rushworth Street.
The workshop is open to anyone, whether they’re already campaigning, have an idea for a project, or are just interested in the topic.
Ollie Pursey, a barrister from Garden Court Chambers, will do a talk about the mechanisms of the law and important laws like the Human Rights Act and the Equality Act.
Harpreet Aujla, from the Southwark Law Centre will explain the logistics of the law. Specifically, how to create a campaign with a legal challenge through tools such as Freedom of Information requests.
Finally, Saskia O’Hara, from the Public Interest Law Centre, will share her experiences of helping campaigns relating to regeneration and women’s rights.
