Dozens of firefighters battled a blaze at a recycling plant in Ilderton Road this morning.
Shocked passers-by took photos of thick smoke and flames pouring from the windows of Rhino Waste Services Limited.
Terry Gooding of the London Fire Brigade said: “When crews arrived there was lots of thick black smoke and flames punching out of the window. Crews who were wearing breathing apparatus worked hard to quickly extinguish the fire.”
35 firefighters from Peckham, Dockhead, Old Kent Road, New Cross, Deptford and Greenwich fire stations attended the incident at around 9am.
The fire was brought under control roughly an hour later.
No-one was injured in the blaze, which damaged part of the building’s mezzanine floor. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
