Growth Kitchen, a takeaway company with sites in Bermondsey, has been boosted by a £3 million funding round.
The business sets up “dark kitchens”, places where restaurant brands outsource their recipes so they can access customers in areas where they don’t have restaurants.
The Bermondsey site is a 61,000 sq ft industrial unit on Ilderton Road, now converted into eleven individual dark kitchens.
Co-founder Máté Kun told the Evening Standard: “We’ve accepted cooking as the norm for too long. Building on the success of food delivery apps, we are introducing a step-change in how we eat.”
Founders of the 10-minute food delivery app Gorillas Ronny Shibley, Jörg Kattner and Felix Chrobog, are also taking part in the investment. Ronny Shibley said: “Where Gorillas can deliver groceries to your door in 10-minutes, the logical next step would be to go into restaurant food.”
