Two brothers walked three marathons in three days in memory of the sibling they lost to suicide.
Phil Christie, from Camberwell and his brother Rupert have raised more than £25,000 for men’s mental health charity Talk Club.
They were inspired to support the charity in honour of their brother Miles, who died in 2019.
The gruelling route saw them cross the Offa’s Dyke Path from mid-Wales all the way to Chepstow, finishing at 7pm last Saturday.
On their GoFundMe page Phil thanked donors for their ‘unbelievable support’ and said the money raised would be transformative for the Bristol-based charity, describing him and Rupert as ‘weary but elated’ when they crossed the finish line.
Suicide is still the biggest killer of men under 45. Talk Club aims to help men struggling with their mental health through encouraging them to open up and talk about their feelings, and improve their wellbeing through fitness.
The brother’s challenge is part of a wider annual fundraiser in memory of the doctor and father-of-two who was 42 when he took his own life.
Each year, the charity encourages supporters to join ‘Miles for Miles’ – the challenge of walking a million steps in seven days to raise funds and awareness for men’s mental health.
