Detectives investigating a stranger rape just yards away from St Thomas’ Hospital are appealing for helping in identifying a man shown in CCTV footage, to help them with their investigation.
Officers were called to Royal Street, outside the hospital in Waterloo at 1:23am on Tuesday (November 12) to a report of a rape.
Police said a woman in her 40s was physically assaulted before being raped by an unknown man on Royal Street, near the junction with Lambeth Palace Road (see map below).
The woman is now being supported by specialist officers.
DS Paul Barham is investigating the incident. He said: “This is clearly a horrific incident and we are doing all we can to support the woman and find who is responsible.
“The man in the CCTV is wearing distinctive clothing so I appeal to anyone who recognises these items of clothing or believes they know who the man is to contact us straightaway.”
Police said no arrests have been made and enquiries continue.
