Police were called on Saturday (November 6) after two teenage boys were seen allegedly using an angle grinder to cut through a bike lock and steal a bike – in broad daylight outside a busy shopping centre.
Footage taken by an onlooker at the scene shows the two alleged thieves crouched over a bike outside Surrey Quays Shopping Centre. One of them is noisily sawing through a bike lock, with sparks flying.
The man filming asks them if the bike is theirs, at which they point they look up before going back to work on the lock. They soon finish and cycle off.
Police have not made any arrests yet.
A spokesperson for the Met said: “On Saturday, 6 November at 13:32hrs police were called to a report of a bike theft at Surrey Quays Shopping Centre.
“Officers attended and conducted initial enquiries. No arrests; enquiries continue.”
