A member of staff at Bermondsey tube station was assaulted yesterday afternoon while challenging a group of men for suspected fare dodging, say transport police.
The London Underground staff member is believed to have confronted a group of four men who he believed were not paying for their journey.
One of the men is then thought to have turned on the underground worker, assaulting him.
Police were called at 4.47pm on Tuesday December 4, to deal with the attack on the staff member.
Separately, while dealing with the assault, British Transport Police were told a woman had collapsed on the tube platform at around 5.25pm.
Kind-hearted bystanders had been looking after her before the police arrived and paramedics were called.
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson told the News it was called at 5.21pm to reports of the collapsed woman.
The spokesperson said: “We treated a person at the scene and your-cancer-medication.com to hospital.”
A British Transport Police spokesperson urged anyone who witnessed the ‘assault’ to contact them.
The spokesperson said: “Anyone who witnessed this incident is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40 and quoting reference 374 of 04/12/18.”
