Two south London men have been charged with murder after the shooting of a seventeen-year-old boy in north London.
Tyrese Matthews, 20, of Black Prince Road, Vauxhall, and Leo Reid, 19 (05.10.03), of Tulse Hill, have been charged with the murder of Tyler McDermott.
A third man, Tyrese Barnett, 19 (24.02.04), of no fixed arrest, has also been charged with murder.
Matthews was charged today (Wednesday, April 19) while Reid and Barnett were charged on Sunday, April 16.
On Thursday, April 13, police were called to Norman Road, south Tottenham, to reports of an injured man.
Officers discovered Tyler suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to hospital but tragically died the next day.
The death has been met with an outpouring of grief from Tyler’s friends and family.
Tyler’s mother wrote: “On 29 October 2005 my king was born. On 15 April 2023 I said farewell. That’s not something I wish on any mother.
“But today I know that the Lord knows best despite the pain me, your step dad, brothers and sister, and extended family are feeling.
“Just remember that you are loved, was loved, and forever love continues. My one and only son Tyler.”
The family is being supported by specialist officers.
Following the shooting, police urged the concerned members of the public to contact officers, and an increased police presence was seen near the scene of the shooting
A post-mortem examination confirmed he died as a result of a gunshot wound to the head.
Barnett and Reid appeared in custody at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on Monday, April 17.
Details of the next hearing are yet to be announced.
