A £47,000 call-out has been launched for “an experienced and competent” person or group to run this year’s Bermondsey Carnival.
The popular annual event is family-friendly day of music, dance and stalls attracting up to 10,000 people held in summer.
The successful applicant will receive £47,000 to run the event in Southwark Park, but council officials are encouraging applicants to add to the funds themselves.
“The Bermondsey Carnival is a well-established, one day, annual, free to attend, family event. It’s a festival of fun, music, dance and creativity,” states the council’s appeal for organisers.
“Activities in the past have included a live music programme, children’s workshops, a funfair, a variety of food and drink concessions and trade and community/charity stalls.”
A string of conditions – including that the event be open to all, free for the public to attend and be appropriate for Southwark Park – aims to ensure the event will not be dissimilar to previous years.
The deadline for submissions is Friday February 7, and the commission will be awarded on February 21.
The event is expected to take place in June or July. More details can be found by searching ‘Bermondsey Carnival Commission’ on the Southwark Council website.
