The Herne Hill Forum is crowdfunding once again to create the world’s first Street Piano Academy, after a successful campaign to replace the piano at the station smashed its target in May.
The forum is now hoping to raise £2,000 to bring music to children, after learning that just eight per cent of kids in state school learn an instrument.
More than £400 has been raised so far for the academy, which would see local schools, charities and community partners come together to provide free lessons.
The crowdfunding mission statement said: “Our community loves being able to sit and play the piano, all day, any day.
“Anyone and everyone is welcome to have a bash or rustle up a full sonata. We are thinking big, big, BIG so please help us really put Herne Hill on the map for something truly amazing.
“This is a long term, big ambitious project which will require much, much more to reach the poten-tial of changing lives for those less fortunate in our community.
“So please, help us smash our target and develop a Street Piano Academy that will leave a lasting legacy for Herne Hill.”
