It was a Bermondsey Street Festival to remember last weekend as the sun shone and high-spirited residents, visitors and traders flooded the area.
The celebration, which only went ahead after Rotherhithe’s Simplicity restaurant chef Laurence Lingard stepped in with essential funding, was arguably the biggest in its nine-year run, with thousands of people taking part in the fun.
There was live music, local and exotic cuisine, crafts stands, brewery tents and children’s entertainers – as well as the ever-popular dog show, which saw hundreds of people cramming into Leathermarket Gardens to catch a glimpse of the VIP pooches.
There was also a surprise ‘flashmob’, which saw 40 members of the Victoria St choir stun festival-goers with a surprise operatic rendition.
