Southwark has recorded the highest number of first-preference secondary school offers since 2009.

According to statistics compiled by Southwark Council, 65.3 per cent of pupils (1,924 in total) received offers from their top choice – up by 5.8 per cent from last year.

Across London, 68 per cent of pupils gained first-choice offers.

In Southwark, 93.3 per cent of pupils were given a place at one of their six chosen schools.

The remaining 197 families have been offered an alternative school place.  Nearly all families submitted their applications on time, Southwark Council said.

Cllr Jasmine Ali, Southwark’s cabinet member for schools, said: “I know that secondary school is the foundation to a great start in life for the borough’s young people and I wish them all the best for a superb secondary education in Southwark and a great future ahead.”
