An art exhibition of dozens of emojis created by Walworth pupils was showcased at a local gallery on Friday.
The pop-up exhibition saw 50 emojis, made by 27 Michael Faraday School pupils using foam and ceramics, spread throughout the ASC Gallery in Thurlow Street.
Peter Wells-Thorpe, from the Art Stars group who organised the event, said: “The children were cutting out shapes in the form of emojis for an hour-and-a-half. The materials were given to the children, and we set up a working arts studio.
“The most important thing about this was that it’s accessible and inclusive to all the children, and it’s non-prescriptive, meaning there’s no right or wrong way to create something. You can do it in groups or on your own and make whatever you want.
“And what struck me was how different the children’s pieces were. We spotted some really great talent,” the Walworth art consultant said.
Art Stars have said they want to hear from schools, youth clubs or community organisations who would like to take part in the programme, as well as companies, charities or grant-giving organisations interested in becoming sponsors. Email jharris@pwt.ms to get in touch.
