St Thomas the Apostle College says it has had its best ever GCSE results with a provisional progress 8 score of 1.0 – which means its students, on average, achieved one whole grade higher across ten subjects than the national average.
In Maths, 80 per cent of students achieved Grade 4 and above (a pass), and 83 per cent the same for English.
Particularly strong performances came in languages – where 99 per cent passed.
Head teacher Eamon Connolly said: “My huge congratulations go to all boys and their teachers on an excellent set of results: this is another happy day of great celebration at STAC.
“I have no doubt that these results will give students renewed confidence in their post-16 studies and are just reward for all of their hard work.
“This is a very exciting period in our history, in which we are reaping the rewards of outstanding behaviour, excellent teaching and the fantastic support of the whole school community.”
“Although I am delighted by the performance of our boys this summer, it should be recognised that the STAC experience is about much more than examination results, important though these are.
“We seek to ensure the rounded development of all our boys, and their happiness and wellbeing are of paramount importance to us.
“Something that was recognised in our ‘Outstanding Ofsted inspection in November and when we were voted TES Secondary School of the Year 2017.”
High achievers include Ryan Pereira, with his four Grade 9s, five Grade 8s, and seven Grade 7s and Georgy Shine with four Grade 9s, four Grade 8s and two Grade 7s.
