A charity has opened a new nursery in a church to provide 34 much-needed childcare places in the borough.
Southwark’s cabinet member for children and schools, Victoria Mills opened the new facility in St Paul’s Church in Lorrimore Square, which will be run by the charity 1st Place.
The council provided a start-up grant of £110,000 to support the new nursery, which will provide 34 full time places for children aged six months to five years, as well as 32 part time places for children eligible for free two year old early education.
“We are committed to working with schools and early years providers to deliver more quality affordable childcare to help parents in the borough balance work and family life and to give young people in Southwark the best start in life,” said Cllr Mills.
