A contract worker has died while working at Waterloo Tube station this morning.
He had reportedly been working on the station’s travelator when the incident happened.
British Transport Police said they were called to reports of the worker sustaining an injury at around 2.20am this morning.
When they arrived, it became apparent that the incident was ‘more serious’, said the force in a statement.
Despite life-saving attempts, the best efforts of the emergency services were “sadly unsuccessful.”
He was pronounced dead at the scene. Efforts are ongoing to identify the man and to inform his family.
A one-way system was implemented for the morning rush hour, while passengers were advised to avoid interchanges between underground lines.
The British Transport Police is continuing to investigate the man’s death.
