PECKHAM: A councillor has urged residents to “pull their fingers out” and make demands from Southwark Council to plant more trees in their neighbourhoods.
Cllr Jamille Mohammed said he was “delighted” that nine new trees have been planted around Rye Lane, after he requested the funding.
The newly-planted trees are located in Cerise Road as well as outside Halifax and Boots. The Lane ward councillor said: “Planting trees improves the quality of the air we breathe and reduces the incidences of asthma and other respiratory problems. There are pools of money out there that council has for things like this, we just need to get the message out that these are the things we want and that money needs to be spent on.”
