Green-fingered residents added a little colour to Herne Hill last week when they banded together to ‘green up’ the area outside the station.
At the event, organised by the Herne Hill Forum residents group, volunteers planted flowers, dug tree pits and created colourful street ornaments.
The highlight was a specially-built ‘train planter’ – a unique flower bed in the shape of a train carriage.
Kids also helped to “inject colour and fun” into the area by hanging up self-portraits and creating chalk masterpieces on the ground.
Giles Gibson of the Herne Hill Forum said: “It’s great to see everyone come together to give the Square and Brockwell Passage a cleaner, greener look. The energy and enthusiasm from everyone involved was outstanding.”
This was the second special clean-up day, following the ‘Scrub up the Square’ event in June.
