SE5 pupils helped plant a tree in Camberwell Green last week, as the grand re-opening of the revitalised park draws closer and closer.
Kids from St George’s Church of England Primary School joined Mark Williams, Southwark Council’s regeneration boss, and Mayor of Southwark Dora Dixon-Fyle for the ceremonial planting last week.
As part of the ‘Revitalise Camberwell Green’ project, 30 trees are being planted, along with shrubs and wildflower meadows.
The re-opening of the green will also include a brand new play area and market square, as well as new lighting and park furniture
Councillor Williams commented: “I’m delighted with the progress at Camberwell Green and I’m really looking forward to the official opening in June.
“It’s amazing to see all the great things happening in Camberwell, from the new library to the new plaza area, it’s an area to be extremely proud of. My thanks to the local community members that have helped pull this all together. I hope that they’re looking forward to the new green space as much as I am.”
