The UK’s most advanced recycling plant, off Old Kent Road, is opening its doors for free this month.
On Saturday, September 21, Veolia is holding its annual Wonder Day event as part of Open House London – just in time for national Recycle Week.
Visitors will be able to tour the Southwark Integrated Waste Management Facility and find out exactly what happens to their recycling at every stage.
The 20 minute tours are given on a first-come-first-served basis, and attract hundreds of recycling enthusiasts each year.
Throughout the day there will also be a bouncy castle, face painting, games, food stalls, and ‘upcycling’ workshops on how to transform your junk.
Veolia Southwark’s general manager, Julie Angulo, said: “The public are more invested in recycling than ever before, and we’re really pleased to see an increase in recycling awareness among Londoners.
“Wonder Day is one of our favourite days of the year, as it allows us to show off the hard work of our teams, and assure people that recycling is worth the effort.
“With Recycle Week just around the corner, we hope those that visit the facility will go home with a greater commitment to recycling, ensuring the right items end up in the right bin.”
Veolia’s Wonder Day is held at the Southwark Integrated Waste Management Facility, at 43 Devon Street, SE15 1AL on September 21, from 10am to 4pm.
