The Rotherhithe Finnish church is bringing together the best of British and Finnish for the Platinum Jubilee – putting up cardboard cut-outs of the Queen and of Finland’s president, writes Jack Friend…
“We can say with tongue in cheek that we have royalty and a head of state present at our celebrations,” a church service manager said in an email to the News.
And the British-Scandinavian mash-up doesn’t end there – visitors to the church on Sunday (June 5) can enjoy a buffet of classic British cuisine, with a Finnish strawberry cake on offer as a dessert.

It will be a party with a difference as different cultures join together to celebrate the Queen’s seventieth year on the throne. The church is expecting people from the UK, Finland, Japan and even Hong Kong.
The event will take place on Sunday 5th June between 2pm and 4pm.
The church is at 33 Albion St, London SE16 7HZ
