Confirmed cases of Covid-19 have risen sharply across south-east London over the past week, official figures show.
Cases rose from 3,904 in the week from November 2-8 in Southwark, Lambeth, Lewisham, Greenwich, Bexley and Bromley to 4,742 in the most recent seven days.
New infections went up by nearly 13 per cent in Southwark to 649, although this was still the lowest figure out of any south-east London borough. Lambeth cases rose by almost 30 per cent week-on-week to 780. Bromley saw the biggest increase in cases, with a rise of 46.8 to 1,155.
In Lewisham and Greenwich the number of new cases rose by about ten per cent to 694 and 667 respectively. Bexley had an increase of just over 14 per cent to 797.
Deaths linked to Covid-19 remained largely flat across the six south-east London boroughs over the week, at nine – up from eight in the previous seven-day period.
It comes as the number of booster jabs given by the NHS hit record heights recently, with 2.1m third jabs delivered from November 6-12. More than ten million people in England have now received their booster vaccine since the programme began seven weeks ago, including people who are clinically vulnerable, aged 50 and above, or who work in health and social care.
That includes nearly 1.3m Londoners. Nearly thirteen million vaccine doses have been given in the capital so far.
