A charity for the blind is appealing for volunteers to help people in Southwark using their new radios, writes Josh Mellor…
The specially designed devices provided by the British Wireless for the Blind Fund allow blind and partially-sighted people to access a range of audio resources including audio books.
The national charity needs volunteer ‘radio supporters’ in Southwark to visit visually impaired people and help install and explain how to use their new device.
BWBF Regional Development Manager Sophie Wheldon said: “Volunteering really is a great way of giving back to your community and we are looking for people in Southwark and surrounding areas to support us in delivering our service to blind people, giving them a lifeline to the outside world.”
“This is a rewarding and flexible voluntary role, you can do it a time to suit you and you will come away knowing you have made a real positive difference to someone’s life.”
The charity’s radios provide a lifeline to the world for those, who are unable to afford a specially adapted radio and meet their criteria by supplying them on a free loan basis.
