Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Trust reported no COVID-19 deaths for five days in a row last week.
The latest available NHS figures show the trust did not have a single COVID-19 fatality from May 16-20. So far, 223 patients have lost their lives to the virus while being treated at its sites.
It was one of six major hospitals in London to see no deaths from the virus in a 48-hour period.
King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has also seen a marked drop in COVID-19 cases.
A total of 489 of patients across its hospitals have died from the disease, with the highest toll recorded on March 31 – with 27 deaths.
It had no fatalities from the virus for the first time on May 12, but so far has not had two consecutive days without deaths since the crisis began. May 12, May 16, and May 19 saw no COVID-19 deaths at King’s.
Southwark has had 1,264 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases so far. It is currently the fourteenth most affected borough after cases spread across the country.
Birmingham still has the most number of confirmed infections (3,425) followed by Sheffield (2,519) and County Durham (1,967).
