A member of staff at coronavirus-hit King’s College Hospital has died after being found unresponsive there on Monday evening.
It has been reported that the woman, in her twenties, was a nurse on an intensive care unit caring for Covid-19 patients, and that she may have sadly taken her own life.
This was not confirmed by either the police or the hospital. A file is being prepared for the coroner, and police said they are not treating the death as suspicious.
In a statement, King’s College Hospital said it was offering support to the family of the deceased staff member and asked that their privacy be respected.
“A member of staff was found unresponsive at the hospital on Monday (23 March 2020). Despite the best efforts of the medical team, they sadly died,” said a spokesperson.
We are offering support to their family at this difficult time and would ask that their privacy is respected. No further comment will be provided.”
The Met were called to the scene at around 5.30pm on Monday. “The woman, aged in her 20s, was treated and later died in hospital,” said police. “Next of kin have been informed.
“The death is not being treated as suspicious. A file will be prepared for the Coroner.”
