Planning permission has been granted for the development of Lettsom TRA hall in Camberwell.
The revamped building in Vestry Road will include eleven new council homes on the upper floors on top of a new community hall.
Half of the new homes will be offered first to residents who live in the immediate area and are in overcrowded or unsuitable housing.
Councillor Stephanie Cryan, cabinet member for council homes and homelessness, said: “I’m really excited about the Vestry Road development which will provide a new, upgraded TRA hall for local residents here as well as creating much-needed new council homes for the local community.
“Innovations such as this can transform underused spaces in our borough to create the affordable housing our residents desperately need.”
The new building will be five storeys and include one, two and three bed flats.
It has been designed by architects Fraser Brown Mackenna and will also benefit from a new open walkway – replacing the current covered one – leading into a landscaped courtyard and playground.
Work is expected to begin in the spring of 2022 and finish toward the end of 2023.
