ALEX Mitchell was chosen as the winner of St. Johnstone’s Young Player of the Season award after an impressive campaign on loan from Millwall.
The centre-back moved north of the border after loan spells at non-league outfit Bromley and then League Two side Leyton Orient, joining up with former Lions assistant manager Callum Davidson, who has regularly recruited youngsters from his former team.
Mitchell has been a regular starter for most of the campaign, playing 28 games and scoring once – a late equaliser at home to champions Celtic in a game that the Saints ultimately lost in the 95th minute. Fans of the club highlighted the 21-year-old as one of their best players this season, although Davidson’s sacking has seen his game time cut in recent weeks, with his last start coming on March 18th.
However, his performances throughout the campaign have seen him named as their Young Player of the Season, and he will be hoping to play more minutes in St. Johnstone’s final four fixtures.
