Tenants of L&Q housing association in Southwark will be among the first in the country to be able to buy their own home as part of the controversial voluntary Right to Buy pilot.
The extension of the Right to Buy scheme to housing association tenants was announced by the Chancellor in November last year and meaning tenants will be eligible for a discount of up to £103,900.
Southwark’s housing boss slammed the plans to extend Right to Buy after it was revealed the borough could lose over 16,000 affordable homes as the money needed to pay for the reduced-price sales would be raised by councils, being forced to sell off their most valuable properties when vacant.
The Right to buy extension is excellent news. The Socialists in London want everyone to be dependent on the state so they can blame the Tories for everything that goes wrong.
