Neil Coyle and Helen Hayes will stay on as councillors even after being elected as MPs in Southwark, it was confirmed to the News this week.
They will take on a ‘dual-role’ for the time being, although they have not ruled out stepping down in the future. A resident of his Newington ward, Mr. Coyle indicated that should he move to a different part of his constituency in the future he may reconsider his position.
Mr Coyle was elected as councillor in 2010 with 2,174 votes, the most in his ward.
They have confirmed that they will no longer receive their councillor allowances.
