The Home Office has denied claims a woman who has lived in London for nearly 50 years had an EU settlement scheme application rejected.
Bermondsey MP Neil Coyle had taken to twitter hitting out at what he described as a “shameful mess” after a constituent said she was left in limbo when her application was turned down, despite living in London since 1972.
But the Home Office told the News this week that, after looking into this case: “This individual was not refused status under the EU Settlement scheme.
“A previous application for permanent residence under EU law was unsuccessful because no evidence was provided.”
The News understands an application under the scheme is currently pending.
A spokesperson went on to say: “The EU Settlement Scheme makes it easy for EU citizens to get the UK immigration status they need.
“It’s free and there is a wide range of support available online, over the phone and in person to help people apply.”
Strange how an admin error on the part of the lady concerned suddenly becomes a ‘shameful mess’ …aimed at trying to frighten people …THAT is a ‘shameful mess ‘
