MEP Seb Dance has said the voter data that was dumped in bins outside his office in Jamaica Road “has nothing to do with him”.

The News previously reported how Bermondsey and Old Southwark MP Neil Coyle apologised on his behalf for the mistake as it was believed he did not want to comment – but after a miscommunication, it was revealed the voter information does not have a connection to MEP Seb.

“It’s not my data and I don’t even use that type of information. We don’t handle data in my office, all we use is a mailing list. There’s no question that I would respond to comment and I would always clarify,” he said.

“I’ve been working hard in European Parliament since the referendum. We had a meeting with the lead negotiator in Parliament this week along with other concerned London MEPs where we spoke about how to make sure London does not suffer.

“We made the point that we have one in three Londoners born abroad and are a multicultural place. We got a good response where they said they would be happy to have discussions with representatives from London on the complex negations that follow.

“It’s an opportunity we have to make head way when the government is not treating the EU with the respect they ought to.

“More recently we passed an air pollution bill which is an important issue along Jamaica Road and in Southwark. It costs the lives of 10,000 Londoners every year.”

It is still unclear how the information came to be put in the bins.
