Plans for the 18 Blackfriars Road development were unveiled last week, revealing proposals for SE1’s second tallest tower after the Shard.

The proposals come seven years after initial plans to develop the site were approved by then Communities Secretary, Hazel Blears, after a public inquiry.

Designed by architects Wilkinson Eyre, the site owned by Jersey registered Black Pearl will feature a skyscraper standing at 178.5 metres tall.

Parts of the site are currently still being demolished to make way for the development, which will see 227 homes for sale on the open market, 548 hotel rooms, and 64 flats of “affordable housing” across it.

The site is located south of the Blackfriars Bridge close to the intersection between Stamford Street and Blackfriars Road.

Paris Gardens forms the site’s western boundary and the southern boundary is the churchyard of Christ Church.

A formal planning application is expected to be sent to Southwark Council “shortly”, with Black Pearl remaining “committed to consultation with local residents and the local community”.
