Result: Millwall Lionesses 4-0 Crawley AFC
The Lionesses kept up their recent goal-scoring form with a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Crawley AFC at St Paul’s last weekend, with the three points taking them into the top half of the L&SERWFL Premier Division table.
It had been a first half of rather below-par football and off-target shooting, before the opening goal on 34 minutes showed what this Millwall side are capable of. Centre-forward Emma Whitter worked her way into the box, beating three players before releasing Liv McGregor, whose pinpoint cross was headed home at the far post by Shannan Drewe.
Managers Alex Russell and Adam Rowland demanded better at half-time, and from then on the Lionesses stepped up their game to close to recent standards. They added a further goal by Chloe Burr from a Drewe corner, before two strikes by seventeen-year-old substitutes Melissa Jones and Ellen Napper, both set up by another youngster in left-back Emel Huseyin.
Millwall arein action at Enfield Town in the league on Wednesday night.
The Lionesses return to Rotherhithe this Sunday when they host Newhaven in the second round of the L&SERWFL League Cup. Kick-off is 1.30pm. Newhaven are top of Division 1 South having won all ten of their league games this season.
That is followed by an FA Cup tie at Denham United on Saturday week.
Russell and Rowland will see these next games as an important measure of the team’s progress after this five-match winning run, which as well as the potent attack has been based on a sound defence conceding only two goals.
