ALEX Neil said he was pleased with a point away at Middlesbrough and praised his side’s efforts after a tough few weeks.
The Lions headed into the clash having lost four of their last five games, including their two most recent away fixtures at Southampton and Blackburn Rovers, amid a bruising injury crisis which left Neil without eleven first-team players.
Depleted Millwall still managed to take a two-goal lead into half-time through goals from Tairyk Arconte and Lyndon Dykes. Boro boss Kim Hellberg made three half-time changes, which sparked a quick comeback. Amario Cozier-Duberry pulled one back before Will Lankshear equalised fifteen minutes after the restart.
The Lions held on for a draw, becoming the first team to pick up points at the Riverside Stadium this season.
Neil was asked by NewsAtDen if he was pleased with the point.
“Absolutely,” Neil said. “There are very few times that I’d say I’d take a point before the game. I set out to win every game.
“Given our last two away results, we needed to come here and make sure we were hard to beat first and foremost and see if we could build ourselves into the game. We knew transitionally, we’re a threat and we can score a goal.
“In general, we normally deal defensively with the situations where we conceded tonight. That was disappointing. And the lads are a bit frustrated and disappointed after the game with that.
“But I can’t fault the effort. We have done four back-to-back Tuesdays now in a row. We just went to Blackburn and back, and then we’re up to Middlesbrough and back, which is probably our two longest travels of the season. We’ve got West Ham at the weekend, and we’ve got a lot of lads running on empty just now. I’m really pleased with the effort that they’ve put in.”
