Dulwich based Wanderers FC have been given a £3,000 Football Foundation grant to support its work supporting grassroots football across south London.
The money, payable over the next two years, will be used by the club to recruit and train new coaches and players.
This will enable the club to enter an additional Men’s team into competitive league and cup competitions and improve the Ladies team, who are expected to compete officially in the 2016-17 season. Club Secretary Mark Wilson said: “Wanderers would like to express our gratitude to the Football Foundation for sensibly investing their money in a growing club with a track record of success on and off the pitch.”
Formed in 1859 Wanderers FC were founder members of the FA and won the first FA Cup in 1872. A further four FA Cups followed before the club disappeared in 1887 before they reformed in 2009. Any new players wishing to join the Wanderers should visit www.originalwanderers.com.
