A new host of rising athletes from Southwark have been chosen by Everyone Active to benefit from free gym passes and funding toward the cost of training and competing in their fields.
Now in its fourth year, sports stars selected to join the local Sporting Champions scheme include Frank Agyemang, a blue belt-level Bronze medal winner at the British Nationals in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu; Daniel McGlade, a fencer won a gold medal at the U20 Commonwealth Games; national and international tennis player Jotham Tonge-Bobia; and 400-metre sprinter Susan Banjo, whom has won medals at both county and national level.
Olympic and Paralympic athletes to receive support include para-triathlete racer Jade Jones, gold medal-winning gymnast Max Whitlock, and Team GB hockey captain Alex Danson.
Everyone Active’s Regional contract manager, Mark Basker, said: “We are delighted to be able to support these local sports stars on their journey to success.
“As a leisure provider working in partnership with the council, we feel it is important to cater for all sectors of the community.
“The Sporting Champions scheme has already supported a huge number of athletes and I’m proud that we are continuing this again in 2019.
“The scheme has hit the milestone of 1,000 athletes and I hope being part of the scheme makes a real difference to the athletes.”
