BENIK Afobe may miss Wednesday’s match against Birmingham City after picking up a knee injury over the weekend.
The striker was hurt in the dying stages of Saturday’s 1-0 loss away at Huddersfield Town, making him a doubt for the upcoming trip to St. Andrew’s.
Afobe joins Murray Wallace, Ryan Leonard and Shaun Hutchinson on the sidelines this week, while Isaac Olaofe has returned to first-team training after missing the loss in West Yorkshire through illness.
“Benik just got caught towards the end of the game when we had the penalty shout,” Rowett told NewsAtDen.
“He just felt his knee was a little bit sore, didn’t train on Monday. We’re seeing if that settles down and assess it, but he felt a little bit uncomfortable over the weekend.
“Whether he’s had a bit of a kick that’s created a bit of damage, we’re not sure. We’ll find out.”
“I think everyone else is okay. Isaac Olaofe has been ill, should be back training today. Muzza [Wallace] might be able to take part in some training, but again, he’s not a million miles away.
“I’d be very disappointed if he wasn’t back before the international break, but with the nature of his injury, we have to make good decisions, as tempting as it is to chuck some of the players straight back in.
“We have to make good decisions on when the right time is and we’ll see how that fares over the next 24 hours.”
