London saw nearly as many e-scooter collisions in the first half of 2021 as in all of 2020, newly released figures show.
Data published by City Hall in response to a question to Sadiq Khan reveals that there were 258 collisions involving e-scooters from January-June 2021, compared to 266 in all of 2020.

These new figures illustrate the rapid rise of private e-scooter ownership despite the ban. There have been suggestions that the government could legalise them this year.
Southwark has seen several collisions involving e-scooters, including one incident where a Rotherhithe man died after an alleged crash on Long Lane in Bermondsey.
A top surgeon at King’s College Hospital in Denmark Hill said in December that the growing number of people needing operations after being seriously injured in collisions involving e-scooters was “a concern”.
The hospital saw 196 patients come into its emergency department with injuries suffered during an e-scooter collision in 2020.
