A 33-year-old from south-east London who shared extremist material glorifying terrorism has been jailed.
Fahd Ismail was sentenced to two years and nine months behind bars on Monday (September 6) after appearing at Woolwich Crown Court.
The offences date back to 2017 and involved Islamist material that encouraged violent Jihad.
He was arrested on June 17, 2020, and subsequently released on bail before being charged on December 18 the same year with four counts of ‘possessing of a document or record containing information of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism’.
A further two charges were added to his indictment on Friday, April 30. He pleaded guilty to all six counts on Friday, July 2.
Commander Richard Smith, head of the Met’s counter terrorism command, said: “This was a diligent and thorough investigation by highly skilled counter terrorism officers, which prevented further dissemination of extremist material.
“I encourage anyone who has suspicions about material someone is viewing online to report it to police without delay.
“Trust your instincts and know that you are never wasting our time.”
According to the Met, around a fifth of reports made by the public are useful intelligence for counter-terrorism officers.
