It’s official – the Half Moon Pub in Herne Hill will re-open on March 20, writes Kirsty Purnell…
The beloved pub, owned by Fuller’s, has been shut since August 2013, when a burst Thames water pipe flooded the area.
The re-opening has suffered a series of setbacks, with the most recent being the completion of a gas installation, but Fuller’s are confident that they’ll be able to swing open the doors on March 20.
The refurbished pub will have twelve hotel bedrooms and a new kitchen in the Billiard Room, which was formerly used for live bands.
Fuller’s have been busy consulting with local residents about future activities for the pub, including a celebration of International Dylan Thomas Day on May 14 – with the Half Moon being a favourite drinking haunt of the Welsh poet.
Managing Director for Fullers, Jonathan Swaine, said: “I had hoped that by this point I would be welcoming you all to the Half Moon in Herne Hill, but while work is progressing well, we are still a month away from opening.”
“We are pinning everything on March 20 – as long as the gas installation goes smoothly. If anything changes, we will let you know. But all things being equal, we look forward to welcoming you on Monday, March 20.”
