A campaign to protect The Old Mill Building in Peckham by lobbying for it to become a ‘community asset’ is gathering momentum.
Campaigners want the former Victorian wine manufacturer at 72 Copeland Road, now used as a church, protected from redevelopment as part of Southwark Council’s regeneration plans.
To gather support, heritage group Peckham Vision and Community Outreach Ministries are opening the site to visitors every Wednesday from 6.15-7.15pm, so residents can learn more about the building’s industrial heritage and role in the community.
Peckham Vision coordinator Eileen Conn said: “We encourage local people to take the opportunity to visit the building and see it for themselves.
“Our aim is to collect people’s views when they visit so we can present them to the public hearings into the Council’s New Southwark Plan.”
