Residents from Dulwich’s Stonehills Court have turned their street into a giant advent calendar in the run up to Christmas.
Organised by Carrie King, the window decorations have proven hugely popular in the College Road cul-de-sac and, according to her neighbour Jackie Yap, “brought Christmas cheer to all of us”.
Carrie told the News she was inspired by similar scenes in neighbouring parishes including Christ Church in Gipsy Hill.
As Stonehills Court is circled around a shared grass island, walkers can view all 24 windows as they walk around the green.
“When I saw other parishes doing it, it just clicked as something right for us,” the mum of three said.
“It made a nice change on our community Whatsapp group from talking about bins and parking!”
Carrie says if there is any positive to be taken from COVID-19 it is that her community – a mix of renters, homeowners, people who have lived in Dulwich for decades and newer arrivals – has become closer.
“During lockdown I helped a shielding neighbour with her shopping and when I’ve had to self isolate neighbours have helped me.
“Any events we were planning to hold had to be cancelled, but hopefully we can get together more next year.”
