Hospitals run by Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS trust are getting the armed forces in to help, with many staff members having to self-isolate because of Covid-19.
NHS England said last week that 200 members of the military would be deployed in London hospitals over the following three weeks. A spokesperson for Guy’s and St Thomas’ trust confirmed that its hospitals – which include Guy’s, St Thomas’ and Evelina London Children’s Hospital – would be among those supported by military personnel.
Thousands of NHS employees in London are sick with Covid-19 or self-isolating. Some 201 people were in Guy’s and St Thomas’ trust hospitals with Covid as of January 4.
This is not the first time the armed forces have been brought into NHS hospitals in the pandemic – 4oo military personnel were sent to hospitals in London and the Midlands in January 2021.
