The Brandon Estate is revitalising its high street by hosting a family day on Easter Sunday, with free pitches for traders.
Children can expect an Easter egg hunt, a floral crowns workshop, a bouncy castle and face painting, from 11am to 4pm, on Sunday, April 9.
Traders will sell food, games, toys and drinks, with live Latin-American music providing the day’s soundtrack.
There are sixteen pitches in total and traders are invited to book a free slot using this link.
Tom Lloyd, chair of the Brandon 1 Tenants’ and Residents’ Association, said: “We would like to invite all our neighbours to attend the Easter family event on Maddock Way. Lots of fun and attractions for all ages.”
When the Kennington Estate was built in the 1950s, Maddock Way was envisaged as the commercial epicentre.
Originally, there was a post office, butchers, convenience store, pharmacy, doctors, greengrocers and pub available to residents.
While the pub, convenience store and pharmacy remain open, there are three barren shops.
Southwark Council has previously said that marketing the units has been difficult, especially after the covid-19 pandemic.
The Easter Sunday event is part of a trial being run by Southwark Council and Brandon residents as part of the Great Estates and High St Recovery Fund initiatives.
With funding from the Great Estates programme, Brandon 1 TRA completed a set of allotments last year.
The estate was also one of the filming locations for season five of The Crown, when Dominic West paid a visit in his role as King Charles.
The Easter Sunday event in from 11am to 4pm on Sunday, April 9 at Maddock Way, Kennington, SE17 3NH.
