NEIL Harris believes there is an expectation on Norwich City to be in the top six after the money they have invested in their squad.
The Canaries finished 14th last season and Daniel Farke seemed to be under pressure when just one win in the opening six games, after selling James Maddison and Josh Murphy for more than £30million in the summer, left them 17th.
But they are currently second after eight wins and a draw in their last 10 games.
“They are a big football club and have spent a lot of time in the top divisions. Yes of course there’s an expectation on them, like a lot of clubs in this division, to be a top-six side,” Harris said.
“They probably see themselves roughly where they should be, in the top six. They sold some players in the summer to make a lot of money, but they’ve spent a lot of money in the last few years to build their squad. It’s coming to fruition now, for the first real time.
“But we don’t worry about that. We haven’t worried about that for the last 15 months. We prepare diligently as ever for the opponent and the quality they’ve got.
“For me this weekend, yes it’s about stopping them, but it’s about us being better. We didn’t get a lot wrong against Brentford without the ball, it was two bizarre goals when we gave the ball away.
“It would have been interesting had we got the first goal from a couple of chances. There was nothing in the game for 50 minutes, then we get a bit of bad luck with a ricochet and after a bit of quality the ball ends up in our net.”
Millwall tried to sign Ben Marshall in the summer after he got five assists and scored three goals in 16 games on loan with them last season.
He has played just four league games this season and was recently absent from the squad, but returned to the bench last weekend for the 4-0 win at Sheffield Wednesday.
Harris said. “He’s a top player at this level and it shows how well Norwich have been doing that he can’t get into the team. A player they’ve spent good money on can’t get a game.
“It shows what we’re up against. Ben had a great spell with us and we’re fully aware of his capabilities and his class.”
