MILLWALL boss Gary Rowett won’t be handing out appearances just for the sake of it against Huddersfield on Wednesday.
The Lions go into their last game of the season out of the play-off race but still with a chance to finish seventh, which would be their highest final league placing since 2001-02.
Rowett was unhappy with the way Millwall threw away their chance of a top-six challenge on the final day when they lost 4-3 to QPR on Saturday.
Hayden Muller, an 18-year-old centre-back, has been on the match-day bench since the restart.
Abdul Abdulmalik is a highly-rated 17-year-old attacker who excelled on the run to the FA Youth Cup quarter-finals earlier this season.
Rowett wants to go into pre-season with a win against Huddersfield, who sacked manager Danny Cowley and his brother and assistant Nicky on Sunday despite them all but securing the Terriers’ Championship place for next season.
Rowett said: “I’m disappointed with the game and my first instinct is not to treat the last game just as an opportunity for people.
“We want to treat the last game as any other, we want to go out and win it. If that gives some players opportunities because I think they deserve it, that’s one thing. If that means some players have to go again then they’re going to have to show the mentality to go again.
“We want to win the last game, we want to finish the season strongly.”
